Frequently Asked Questions

When does the season start/end?
All important dates may vary by season, but are listed on our league calendar.

When will practices be held?
Practice nights will not be determined until the official close of registration. They are based on coach and field availability. All rec-level teams will participate in one practice per week.

When will games be held?
Spring: Game nights may vary by season. Our goal for all "in-house" play is to have game schedules released to coaches no later than 10 days prior to Opening Day. Anne Arundel County Co-Op and NCCGSL schedules are created and released by those organizations, and will be forwarded to BBSC teams as soon as they are made available to us.
Fall: Games are traditionally held every Sunday; late morning to early afternoon.

Are practices and games at the same field?
Based on field availability, it's possible that your player could play at any of our 4 parks on the peninsula throughout the season.

How are we notified about practice/game cancellations?
Depending on the situation, you can expect to hear from the league or your player's coach as soon as a cancellation has been determined. Closures will be sent via email (you may also opt-in to receive text message via your BBSC account). We also list field statuses on our homepage. For Co-Op/NCCGSL teams, when scheduled to play away games, all communication will run through your player's head coach.

Can my child play up/down into a different age division?
BBSC maintains the policy that all players will participate in the division set by their date of birth, with the only exceptions being made to prevent potential safety concerns (for the individual or the players around them). If you believe that your child’s participation in this division will present such a concern, please bring it to our attention. Those safety concerns will be identified by coaches during the evaluation process, and the coaches’ recommendations will be presented to the Board of Directors for possible action.

Can my child play on the same team as their friend? Or can we request a particular coach?
BBSC will not consider such requests beginning at Juniors division baseball and 10U softball, where rosters are decided by player drafts. For Tball, Rookies, 6U & 8U Softball, these requests can all be made during the registration process. However, no request is guaranteed or prioritized. Balancing roster sizes and managing practice night conflicts are just two examples of why it may not be possible to honor a buddy/coach request.

What equipment will my player need for the upcoming season?
Dependent upon age, players may need different equipment. Check out our Equipment Guide to get our recommendations.

Will BBSC cover repairs if my car is struck by a ball?
Unfortunately, no. Parking your vehicle in the general vicinity of a playing field comes with an "assumption of risk," and therefor will not be covered by BBSC's insurance policies.
