Please see the below email from Kelly Ford. The app he is referancing is great especially for those who are unable to attend the game. Thank you for doing this Mr. Ford!
Greetings, fellow sandlot baseball families!
My name is Kelly Ford. I'm Amanda's dad. I've set us up with GameChanger.com and the GameChanger app so we can follow the games and keep stats and easily share the information with everyone. To join our team, please click on the following link:
Because of the nature of our program, mixing up rosters each week, I've had to be creative with how I use the GameChanger platform. I put all 24 players on a roster for the home team, the Maroon Bruins. All 24 players are on the roster of the visiting team, the Grey Bruins. I'll just adjust the playing rosters for each game as the coaches realign the rosters. We don't have numbers on the back of the jerseys, but I did assign player numbers based on alphabetical order.
As I am scoring the game, I will keep it very simple. There will be no errors, wild pitches, passed balls, etc. For example, if a player gets to second on an overthrow, I'll just call it a double. The stats will be compiled when a player is on the Maroon Bruins, but I'm not sure season stats will be compiled for the times when they are on the Grey Bruins. That way, thirty years from now when a half dozen of our players are inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, the sabrematricians in Cooperstown will likely be impressed with the records kept in their Fall 2000 Sandlot season. As a practical matter, we want the kids not to obsess over any mistakes. My experience with GameChanger is that players often bug their parents to see the stats after the game, and nothing can be more crushing that seeing numbers under the E category of the stats.
If you've never used GameChanger before, it's a pretty cool program. You'll be able to follow the game in real time if you can't be there in person. And as I mentioned before, kids and coaches love looking over the stats after the game.
I already have one volunteer, but if I could have another that could score games for me if I'm not there it would be greatly appreciated. We plan to be there for every game, but Amanda is the only goalie on a field hockey team where nobody else wants the job. She loves baseball more, but if there is a schedule conflict, duty calls and she must put on armor three times as thick as her catcher gear.
We're very excited about this season and look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday. Again, here's the link to join, and I think you can attach yourself to your player after you've joined:
